When you say the words ‘Wrestling Commentator’ you automatically think of the legend Jim Ross. The former WWE commentator now works for rival promotion All Elite Wrestling, which he has said on many occasions is a job that he loves.
In a recent interview with Busted Open Podcast, Ross discussed how things are changing in the world of wrestling. He also spoke about the bad attitude of some of the talent within AEW.
Ross spoke about how a lot of the younger Superstars come up to him and say that it has always been their dream to have one of their matches called by the Hall of Famer.
He also spoke about how of the AEW talents are unwilling to take his advice. JR said that there are some things in modern wrestling that he does not agree with, one of those things being the tag rope.
“The issue is, not everybody listens. They think that somethings [in the industry] ‘suck’. We don’t have tag ropes anymore because some of our crew think it’s lame. I think it’s bullsh*t. Heels need rules to break.”
Ross elaborated by adding that heels always need to cheat to gain heat. He believes it is the shortcuts and dodges that heels take that give them an unfair advantage and bad reputations.
“You need shortcuts to gain an unfair advantage. It’s just common sense, it is basic human instincts. The heels when they get out and wrestle? They cheat. It’s never changed, it’s not going to change.”
Ross finished with the fact that while most wrestlers listen hi his advice, he can tell when a youngster is not interested in the wisdom he is trying to bestow on them.
“Most of them listen in and are appreciative. I can tell when their eyes go off the topic. If I’m talking to you and you ain’t looking at me in the eye? You ain’t listening. So why should I waste my breath?”
When Jim Ross worked at WWE he also had a role in talent relations. His role within AEW is purely as a commentator but surely with all the knowledge and experience he has; the younger generation should be listening to him?
