Back in April WWE released a whole host of talent in order to cut costs, one of those stars has recently spoken out about how the company made a mistake by not using her to her full potential.
Deonna Purrazzo had only just left WWE when she made the move to Impact Wrestling where she has already become the Knockouts Champion after defeating Jordynne Grace at its Slammiversary event.
Purazzzo was recently interviewed by Busted Open where she spoke negatively about her release from WWE. Here is what she had to say regarding being let go:
“I had a chip on my shoulder, and the first interviews I did, I was like, ‘screw NXT!’ and that put a target on my back. That put pressure to perform at a new level and to raise to Jordynne’s level, to Taya’s level, raise to Tessa’s level. All the champions that came before me, now I have to be equal with them. If not, better, especially where I was coming from and the success I didn’t see in NXT.
“I had to make this worthwhile, and come in, and be right with the champion, be on the first pay-per-view I can be on as, now, the Knockouts Champion. It’s like, ‘[WWE] messed up! And I hope you regret it and I hope you feel dumb’, because everyone else can see it and I’ve known it my entire life.”
Purrazzo signed with WWE back in 2018 but had the opportunity to have an appearance at AEW’s All In event, but she cancelled that and joined NXT instead. Purazzo was barely used on TV and never had many big matches, except possibly against Charlotte Flair in December.
Since leaving the company, many released athletes have spoken about their treatment and lack of opportunities. Purrazzo was mishandled and sadly she will not be the last that it will happen to. Hopefully, her move, and other star’s moves elsewhere will allow them to flourish.
