WWE made the decision that Sami Zayn was to be stripped of his Intercontinental Championship Title as a result of him not being able to compete. In order to replace the Champion WWE are holding a tournament.
Zayn took to Twitter today and expressed his thoughts on the situation.

Zayn defeated Braun strowman at Fastlane in a 3-on-1 Handicap match to win the title. He recently defended the title at WrestleMania against Daniel Bryan.
It was initially reported that Zayn missed a week of SmackDown due to having his wisdom teeth removed. However, that was several weeks ago and the report now is that Zayn has chosen not to return due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
It remains to be seen how long it will be before Sami Zayn makes his return to television. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura have seemingly aligned themselves with Baron Corbin, which could signal the end of their relationship with Zayn.
