17 years ago, Hulk Hogan had his last WrestleMania match against WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. The match was a Street Fight which Hogan won despite interference from Roddy Piper. Fast forward to this year and it has emerged that Mr McMahon wanted Hogan to wrestle and win a match at Mania 36 ‘Showcase of the Imortals’
It was reported on the lead up to WrestleMania that Vince McMahon and WWE management were trying to persuade Hulk Hogan to appear at this year’s biggest wrestling event. From details released by Wrestling news we know more details on what the plans for Hogan were and why he did not make the appearance.
According to the site Hogan was wanted not only to make an appearance at WrestleMania but Vince also wanted him to win a match. It was planned that Hogan would take part in Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The WWE legend was set to win the trophy without taking any serious bumps but unfortunately the plans had to be set aside when the event was moved to the Performance centre during the global health issues.
“The idea was he wouldn’t take any bumps. We would work it so he would only have to eliminate one or two guys at the end and then he would get his big celebration at the end with his music. It would have been perfect because he lives in the Tampa area.”
As the quote says, Hogan who is now 66 years of age would have got a massive reaction from the crowd considering the event planned to take place in his hometown of Tampa Bay. The Hall of famer was also set to be inducted for the second time with now.
